"better" is a relative term! 
VMware Player is free for non-commercial use and VMware Workstation cost $249.00 USD. Obviously VMware Workstation has many features that VMware Player doesn't however only you can decide which one fits your needs/wants! I suggest that before you purchase any product that offers free trials as VMware Workstation does that you take advantage of the free trial to ensure it meets your needs/wants!
