New problem

I go into terminal, type su root

Asks for my Password, I type in the same password that I use when I add or remove programs, and it tells me - su: Authentication failure

I have no idea why

It's a known fact that in Ubuntu one needs to preface commands in Terminal with the sudo command when trying to run either as root or with elevated privileges and installing VMware Player/Workstation requires either becoming root or installing with elevated privileges using sudo.

sudo su root
sh VMware-Player-e.x.p-5.0.2-1031769.i386.bundle

Or if you do not become root then:

sudo sh VMware-Player-e.x.p-5.0.2-1031769.i386.bundle

As to whatever is going on with the gedit failure.jpg the .bundle file is not supposed to be opening in edit!
